BEING LAZY

We weren’t lazy when we were babies. Laziness is what we pick up as we grow. As a baby gets up from its sleep it is almost impossible to make it lie down.  As we grow we learn to do nothing. We  learn to waste time. Laziness is harmful to our mind and our body. Even poverty is associated with laziness.

How we define laziness? What is the definition of a lazy man?

As a door turns on its hinges so does the lazy man on his bed.MSP 26:14

The proof of being lazy is described in the above passage. When you are in the bed even after you finish sleep you are proven to be lazy. This is the best definition of laziness. One day King Solomon went by a field of a lazy man and the vineyard of the one who lacked understanding. After this he writes the following:

I went by the field of the lazy man,
And by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding;
And there it was, all overgrown with thorns;
Its surface was covered with nettles;
Its stone wall was broken down.

When I saw it, I considered it well;
I looked on it and received instruction:
A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to rest;
So shall your poverty come like a prowler,
And your need like an armed man. MSP 24:30-31

The King understood that this is a field of a lazy man. It did not have a board saying ‘FIELD OF A LAZY MAN’. But when the king saw the state of the field he understood that the owner of this field must be a lazy man.

This field and the vineyard were in ruins. It was not maintained for a long time. Because of this lack of care and effort this field was covered by thorns and thistles. It only means that this man did not do the work required in his field.  The wall which was there to protect was also broken down. This is the mark of the field of a lazy man.

A lazy man’s field, a lazy man’s business, studies, family and work table, things associated with a lazy man is visible for the world to see that nothing is done. He procrastinated everything to the tomorrows. An ancient proverb says ‘tomorrow never comes’. How beautiful our world will be if what we need to do tomorrow we do it today.

DO NOT PUT OFF FOR TOMORROW WHAT YOU CAN DO TODAY – Thomas Jefferson

As soon as King Solomon saw the field of the lazy man He was not standing there evaluating. Instead he learnt to set things right. Don’t spend time discussing the unaccountable instead obey the principles mentioned in MSP and put to practice what you learnt.
